Vernissage Poster

Four Vernissage posters laid out in a urban area with large buildings in the back.

Project Mandate

Design a visually appealing poster for the Dawson College graphic design students’ vernissage. This poster needs to be original, progressive, inspiring, and relevant to the year it was made. It also needs to bring a design-related concept to life.

Design Thinking

For this project, I chose the word “verve,” which embodies the idea that graphic design students are always enthusiastic and go all out with their positive spirit as designers to create amazing things. To bring the word “verve” to life, I want to play around with the typography so that it pops and add a lot of movement and vibrant colours to the
entire design.

Design Making

In order to produce this colourful and dynamic-looking poster, my original plan was to write the word “verve” using thick strokes and gradients, but the graphic didn’t have enough impact and was hard to read. After giving the design some more thought, I chose to use a 3D bubbly typeface to give the poster a contemporary look that makes it come to life and is in line with current trends. The Aeonik typeface is used to display the vernissage information vertically in white, creating movement and contrast.
